Two opposing armies clash at the center of the scene, with a castle raised up on a hill, behind. The center of the scene is a band of armored bodies and limbs, with long lances poking out and crisscrossing the action. The large armies that follow behind the main clash are indicated by many vertically raised lances and banners that stick up at left and right, above and behind the crowd. The group of bodies and lance-tips at the left bears a simple flag with a cross on it, and the opposing group at right bears a more ornate flag, with an X surrounded by emblems. One fallen soldier lays on the ground in foreground, at the feet of the fighting forces.
