Pointy leaves decorate the piece throughout, including small patches at each corner of the base, the point when the kettle meets the base up to its center, on the pouring hole, and at the bottom of the handle. The lid to the kettle appears to be a flower that is still a bud.

An illustrated title page for 'Les Fleurs Animées', written in fanciful flower and leaf forms. 'Les Fleurs' grows out in pale multicolor flower-forms from a slender, arched stem, filling the upper third of the page. 'Animées' is written with a ribbonlike, yellow-orange and pink vine held up by a woman standing below the floral lettering. She wears a pale green leaf dress with white and pale pink flower ornaments. One leg is extended behind her; her other tiptoe foot stands on a broad, pale green leaf inscribed with the names of the contributors to the book, written in an assortment of fanciful lettering: 'Dessins par J.I. Grandville Graves sur acier par C. Geoffroi Introductions par Alph. Karr. Texte par Taxile Delord. Botanique et horticulture des dames par le Cte. Fœlix'. A pale blue riddon tied to the base of the stem at left gives more information: 'G. de Gonet Edit. Rue des Beaux Arts'. Two brown beetles, one wearing a pink flower as a cap, climb up the stem of the flower. A multicolor butterfly and insect hover over the flower letters. The delicate lines are hatched and crosshatched to create shading; a dense crosshatched area behind this scene creates depth.

Illustrated title page for 'Les Fleurs Animées', on slightly yellowed paper. The title is spelled out in a variety of fanciful flower and leaf forms growing up from a plant with a central stem, two side branches, and four broad leaves. The colors are a mix of bright reds and pinks, sunshine yellow, pale green, light blue, and pale purple. The words are divided among the three branches: 'Les' at the top of the central stem, 'Fleurs' along the left branch, 'Animées' along the right. Below the 'Les' on the central stem are four small human figures clothed in flowers, connected to the stem by leaf caps. They seem to grow from the plant and wave cheerfully. 'Seconde Partie G. de Gonet Editeur' is written in capitalized letters on two pale green leaves. Two large insects, a yellow dragonfly and a red and yellow beetle, cling to the cut stem of the plant. The fine lines of the illustration are offset by a dense scramble of wavy lines behind the leaves, creating depth.

The cover of a dark blue fabric-bound book, slightly dirtied and worn around the edges. At the top, in medieval-style impressed gold lettering, is 'The Bases Of Design / By Walter Crane'. Below, also impressed in gold, is a stylized illustration of a winged woman standing in front of a tree. She is nude, arms raised overhead, birdlike wings spread against the leafy branches of the tree. The shape of the tree's foliage and trunk is like a goblet. The roots of the tree descend in a triangle shape, with words tucked in the spaces between. The words are in small capitalized handwritten-like letters, and separated into two or three chunks divided by dots: 'sym/bolic', 'graph/ic', 'indi/vi/dual', 'col/lect/ive', 'condi/tions', 'cli/matic', 'rac/ial', 'utili/ty', 'mat/erial', 'archi/tect/ural'.

The petals are large and floppy, with frilled edges, around an upright purple cone-shaped center. The pointed, serrated yellow-green leaves are veined in purple; the stem is the same purple. An image of a magnolia flower cuves from the bottom a white plant to the top, its flower opening in the middle. Leaves of varying shades of green curl off of the stem, some growing upward toward the top of the plate, some growing downward toward the bottom. Above the flower, at the top center, a butterfly faces downward toward the center of the plate. To the right of the flower on the right side of the plate's rim, another butterfly turns inward to the left, also toward the center of the plate.

A pair of favrile glass candlesticks with long, translucent, turquoise stems, which have spherical tops on top of globular columns that taper into flat disk shaped bases. The holders are pink, pearlised, bowl shapes with deep pink rims, and magenta srtiped, flaired cylindrical pieces growing from the center, giving the illusion of flowers.

A tall glass vase with flared concave sides, thick rounded rim, and rounded bottom. The vase is painted with a landscape of delicate white and black birch trees. The vivid green lawn is bounded at the far end with a line of sparse dark green bushes along a body of pale green-grey water. Horizontal blue-grey lines beneath the distant blue-grey trees beyond suggest reflections. The pale grey-blue sky above is spotted with pink. At the rim of the vase, the trees painted on the reverse side are visible through the glass.

An oval-shaped silver tray with a deep floral relief bordering the rim. The tray sits horizontal. The bordering relief is ornately carved with lions and pairs of lionesses in scrolling grapevines with leaves and grapes.The silver in the border is slightly tarnished. A darker wood chair with mustard yellow cushion sits diagonally towards the viewer. The chair has a rounded back rail, upholstered yellow seat, and rounded seat frame. Four tapered legs, of which frontal legs emulate natural plant-like forms in engraving at top. Floral and leaf-like motif on the seat back.

A copper and brass kettle hanging from its wrought iron tripod stand. The kettle is round, with an angular spout and tall flared collar around the lid, three stubby brass legs and brass handle fittings supporting a horizontal ebony handle. The kettle is suspended from two hooks curving down from the arched arm of the stand. The arm continues down as one of the three legs of the stand. The legs are linked at their tops by a band of wrought iron surrounding a copper burner beneath the kettle, and, halfway down the legs, by twining supports surrounding a central spike with spiraling finial. The stand is wrapped with grapevine-like tendrils of wrought iron around the middle of the legs and lower part of the arm.

Clear glass vase-shaped carafe with long flared neck widening into round belly, then narrowing into flared foot. The carafe is painted with plants and flowers. At the foot, an X pattern of red-brown stems leads up into green-gold blades of foliage on the belly. At the base of the neck, a collar of white and gold five-petal flowers, with round green leaves. At the rim, a scalloped and dotted gold design.
