Sea horse with enormously long sea body, conducted by rein of flying putto. Above sea horse's long back, woman lying apparently supporting a dish. Upon one of scrolls of body, sits putto. Below, woman with casket, resting upon sea ox.

This drawing is pen and dark brown ink, brush and sepia wash over black chalk on off white laid paper with the following markings: Watermark: lily in double circle, on top of CB. Its dimensions are: 27.7 x 20.7 cm (10 7/8 x 8 1/8 in.).

This drawing is from Italy and dated ca. 1820.

Museum purchase through gift of various donors. Its provenance is Giovanni Piancastelli, Rome (Purchase) We acquired this object in 1901.
