Cup and Saucer Commemorating the Battle of Waterloo Cup And Saucer

This is a Cup and saucer. It was manufactured by Royal Porcelain Manufactory, Berlin. It is dated early 19th century and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The two portraits on this cup represent the English soldier and statesman, the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852), and Gebhard Blucher (1742-1819), the Prussian field marshal who joined forces with Wellington at Waterloo to defeat Napoleon ("The Cooper-Hewitt Collections: A Design Resource," March 26, 1991 - August 30, 1992).

This object was bequest of Erskine Hewitt. It is credited Bequest of Erskine Hewitt.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (a: cup): 9 × 7.7 × 10.3 cm (3 9/16 × 3 1/16 × 4 1/16 in.) H x diam. (b: saucer): 2.2 × 13.5 cm (7/8 × 5 5/16 in.)
