Barrel-shaped warm brown horn box with hinged round lids encircled with gold at both ends. The left lid is open and a lighter golden brown in color, showing the translucency of the horn. The box is ringed with raised bands, alternating with flat bands. It is decorated on all surfaces with delicate gold designs of leafy scrollwork and stippled geometric patterns. A crack runs down from the left end and around the middle of the box.

Box With Two Compartments

This is a Box with Two Compartments. It is dated early 18th century and we acquired it in 1966. Its medium is shaped horn with gold piqué. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The curved wall of this box shows the degree to which thin sheets of horn can be molded. The exterior is decorated with pique work, a type of adornment that entails piercing a pattern onto a surface and then filling the spaces with gold to create a spangled effect. The box's interior is divided by a ciruclar panel, creating two compartments, each with its own lid.

This object was donated by Estate of Harry G. Friedman. It is credited Gift of the Estate of Harry G. Friedman.

A musical score and data manifested in a sketch with mostly pink and white petals on tiny stems branching out onto larger stems in an all-over composition on grey paper. Data collected on a disease is then written in swirls in a white material close to the petals in the negative spaces with red dots in various tiny sizes that are evident near each blossom.
