Matchsafe, "Carved Bog Wood", ca. 1892
This object is resting in our storage facility.
We acquired this object in 1978
Ovoid, with flat top surmounted by plated metal collar. Black/brown colored body features all over carved decoration of shamrock plants, "1892" carved into front, central reserve, the monogram "HR" carved into the reverse, central reserve. Flat, elongated, oval shaped, plated metal lid hinged on top of collar. Small, lozenge shaped, plated metal striker attached to underside of box.
This matchsafe is bog wood, plated metal with the following markings: No marks
. Its dimensions are: 5.3 x 4.3 x 2 cm (2 1/16 x 1 11/16 x 13/16 in. ).
Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener. Its provenance is Collection of Carol B. Brener and Stephen W. Brener (Gift) We acquired this object in 1978.
