Paper-maker's mark: embossed in support at upper left corner of sheet: an oval with "J M P" in center, ornament above and a small banner that reads "BRISTOL" below.

It is inscribed

Recto, in graphite, at top left: steeple on / village church; at top right: House in Gagenauu [sic]; in top right corner: (inscribed in circle) 47 / 59; at center: little roof dormer; at lower left: Very pretty form of gables / overhang in both studs / is at least 3 ft.; lower left edge: Black Forest Sketches / Sept 18th 1887; at right: shingle / bell cupola / even more top / heavy than this / very pretty / Gaggenau / Sept 18th 1887 / the letters simply... were gilded.
