What is this?

Eight darning crosses, central patch "darned" and two rectangle cuts mended.

This is a darning sampler. It is dated 1843 and we acquired it in 1981. Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. This object is currently resting in our storage facility ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
