What is this?

Scattered motifs, mostly geometric, dominated by large butterfly in the center, embroidered in many colors on a natural linen ground. With a flowering vine border.

This is a sampler from Italy. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1981. Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. This object is currently resting in our storage facility ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
