Sampler, 19th century
This object is resting in our storage facility.
We acquired this object in 1981
Scattered motifs, mostly geometric, dominated by large butterfly in the center, embroidered in many colors on a natural linen ground. With a flowering vine border.
This sampler is medium: wool embroidery on linen foundation technique: embroidered in herringbone, cross, cross variation, long armed cross, and satin stitches on plain weave foundation. Its dimensions are: H x W: 39.4 x 62.9 cm (15 1/2 x 24 3/4 in.).
