Persephone Butter Plate

This is a Butter plate. It was designed by Eric Ravilious and manufactured by Wedgwood. It is dated ca. 1930–40 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is glazed porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Its dimensions are

1.8 x 15.7 cm (11/16 x 6 3/16 in.)

It has the following markings

On base, in green: "D" stamp; "PERSEPHONE / DESIGNED BY / RAVILIOUS / OF ETRURIA / WEDGWOOD / MADE IN / ENGLAND / & BARLASTON"; in red ink, overlgaze: "AL4984"; impressed: "WEDGWOOD / 11M53"
