Child's Chair (USA)

This is a Child's chair. It was designed by Ray Kaiser Eames and Charles Eames and manufactured by Evans Products Company, Molded Plywood Division and distributed by Herman Miller Furniture Company. It is dated 1944 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is molded laminated plywood, red stain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This chair, designed in 1944, is in mint condition: it was originally purchased by the donor in 1946 but was never unpacked. Another example of this chair, in a natural finish, is part of Cooper Hewitt’s collection.

This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Minimalism in the Playroom.
