One Touch Bowl And Lid

This is a bowl and lid. It was designed by Morison S. Cousins, Brian L. Aiken and Douglas M. Laib and manufactured by Tupperware Corporation. It is dated 1992 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is polypropylene, polyethylene. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Tupperware was founded by Earl Tupper (1907–1983), who invented a system of household products and storage vessels made of plastic that revolutionized the housewares industry.
Introduced in 1942, Tupperware was practical, simple, and affordable. And, unlike other home goods, Tupperware was not available in stores. Its sales relied on word-of-mouth marketing generated by "Tupperware parties” hosted in homes.
In 1992, Morison S. Cousins, a distinguished product designer, was brought in to revitalize the Tupperware’s design; these products are from his first lines. Cousins made significant changes, with a focus on enhancing Tupperware’s celebrated functional qualities. He replaced the small tabs on the covers with a more ergonomic thumb-release system, and updated the shapes of the products to make them easier to handle and clean. Cousins also introduced new colors to the line to match contemporary taste.
These bowls document the innovative use of plastics, provide examples of Cousins’ design process, and demonstrate “universal design” in action.

This object was donated by Morison S. Cousins. It is credited Gift of Morison S. Cousins.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 7.2 x 16 x 13 cm (2 13/16 x 6 5/16 x 5 1/8 in.)
