Magazine Cover, Engineering Aesthetics

This is a Magazine Cover. It is dated 1990 and we acquired it in 1998. Its medium is offset lithograph on coated paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Alexander Gelman’s minimal approach to graphic design favors flat fields of color in stark, clean arrangements. In this magazine cover, crisp planes of complementary colors clash in a zigzagging border, which vibrates with movement as the contrasting red and green elements affect the eye’s perception of each half of the design.

It is credited Gift of Design Machine.

Bold red textile with a pattern of deep green diagnal bars and dots. The dots, in rows alternate with zagging horizonal bars beneath, between each zagging bar, a simliar, smooth rectangular form is positioned diagnaling, ending between the above and below dots accordingly.
