Shawl

This is a Shawl. It is dated ca. 1860. Its medium is cashmere and its technique is 2/2 twill with discontinuous wefts (tapestry) with double-interlocking; embroidered borders. It is a part of the Textiles department.



Most shawls involve the work of many hands. Some are woven by multiple weavers, while others combine techniques. This shawl employs both weaving and embroidery, each executed by a specialist craftsman.

This object was bequest of Harmon H. Goldstone. It is credited Bequest of Harmon H. Goldstone.
