Sampler, 1815
This object is resting in our storage facility.
We acquired this object in 2003
Sampler worked in very fine cross stitch in black, brown, blue, green, yellow and red silk on a white linen ground. Composed in two sections: on the left, bands of alphabets and spot motifs, various doors and windows. On the right a house with very large birds perched on top, a garden vista, a gate with a key, a carriage with horses, and various figures of people and dogs. All separated by fine running vine borders.
This sampler is medium: linen, silk technique: cross stitch embroidery. Its dimensions are: 22.5 X 26 in. framed.
It is inscribed Carola Caponi

Gift of Myra and William H. Mathers. Its provenance is Ex. coll. Fraser-Martin. Purchased through Mrs. Wiltbank, 1922 (M No. 108, CG no. 304); 2002 appraisal #98 (Gift) We acquired this object in 2003.
