In the left margin is a map of Central park, with paths marked in orange, while in the lower left corner we find a swatch of saffron orange fabric. In the center is a drawn mock up of what the Gates should look like, with the orange panels lining a path where people are walking, and getting closer in perspective in the upper right. The graphite drawing is over a grey-scale photograph of Central Park. Graphite inscriptions in the lower margin detail measurements, materials and the photograph's Upper West location in the park.

A map at left shows Frederick Law Olmstead’s meandering walking paths outlined in bright orange.
