Sidewall - Sample (USA)

This is a Sidewall - sample. It is dated 1906–1908 and we acquired it in 1985. Its medium is machine-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Elaborate tromp l’oeil coffer pattern containing several different layers of architectural moldings along with strong highlights and shadows. Printed in shades of tan and brown to simulate carved wood, this paper would create a convincing paneled effect. Coffered papers were popular from the early nineteenth century into the twentieth century.

This object was donated by Dorwin L. Starr. It is credited Gift of Dorwin L. Starr.

Its dimensions are

69 x 48 cm (27 3/16 x 18 7/8 in.)
