Distillery

This is a Distillery. It was designed by Heatherwick Studio and Thomas Heatherwick and made for (as the client) Bombay Spirits Company Limited. It is dated 2010–2014.

How do you turn a paper mill into a distillery?
A decade after awarding a prize to Thomas Heatherwick’s Glass Bridge, Bombay Spirits commissioned the studio in 2010 to design its new gin distillery— and, in the process, make its production systems more efficient and sustainable. The Test River site lacked a focus, having housed a paper mill with more than forty buildings, so the studio adapted the river as an organizing device. The main production facility is approached along the water. Two new glasshouses, connected to both historical mill buildings and the widened river, showcase the cultivation of botanical herbs and spices that infuse the gin.
