Railing For The Cleveland Play House, ca. 1927

This is a Railing for the Cleveland Play House. It was made by Rose Iron Works Collections, LLC.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Rose Iron Works Collections, LLC as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

It is dated ca. 1927. Its medium is wrought iron, brass.

The oldest continually operating decorative metalwork company in the United States, Rose Iron Works was founded in Cleveland in 1904 by Martin Rose, a blacksmith trained in Budapest and Vienna. Rose Iron Works produced traditional styles of wrought iron alongside more modern designs. This railing for the Cleveland Play House reflects mid-18th-century French rococo taste.
