Sampler (England)

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Elizabeth Thurston and school of Judith Hayle. It is dated 1703 and we acquired it in 2003. Its medium is silk embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by William H. Mathers and Myra Mathers. It is credited Gift of Myra M. and William H. Mathers.

"Elizabeth Thurston Look well to what you take in hand for larning is better then house or land When land is gone and money is spent then larning is most excellent. Aged 15 August the 9 1703"
