Sample, Decor I Series, Square, 1969

This is a Sample. It was designed by Verner Panton and manufactured by Mira-X International Furnishings, Inc.. It is dated 1969 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is cotton and its technique is screen printed on supplementary warp pile (velvet). It is a part of the Textiles Department department.

Verner Panton believed that color played a greater role than form in design, but in these dynamic patterns, he plays with both. In each design, the color appears in eight degrees of saturation, from 15% to 100%; the graduated depth of color contributes to a sensation of three-dimensional depth.

It is credited Museum purchase from the Members' Acquisitions Fund of Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.

  • Sidewall, Borage, 1972
  • block-printed on paper.
  • Gift of Clifford Murvine, Reed Wallpaper Company.
  • 1977-28-19-a/f
