Textile, Pop Rain
This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2012 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is 75% wool, 20% silk, 5% nylon and its technique is jacquard woven. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Japanese designer Akira Minagawa is known for his minä perhonen fashion label, which is characterized by a romantic, slightly naïve, style. In Pop Rain, a highly abstracted rendering of silver raindrops falling against a deep blue night sky, the stereotypical teardrop shape is replaced with a sort of inverted lollipop – a three-dimensional dot with a long tail. Each drop has a raised ball of felted wool at its center.
