"In Me A [Match] You'll Always Find" Matchsafe, 1886–87

This is a Matchsafe. It was manufactured by Sampson Mordan & Company. It is dated 1886–87 and we acquired it in 1978. Its medium is silver, enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It has the following markings

Maker's mark "S.M." (for Sampson Mordan), lion passant, leopard's head (for London), date letter (L), duty mark, all stamped on right side of box. "S.M.", lion passant, date letter (L), also stamped on underside of lid.
