Book, Going Forth By Day

This is a Book. It was designed by Rebeca Méndez and written by Bill Viola. We acquired it in 2018. Its medium is offset lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

For the 2002 Bill Viola Guggenheim, Berlin exhibition catalogue, Going Forth by Day, showing the artist's five-part installation on the complexities of human existence and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Méndez , who designed the catalogue and cover, was praised by the artist for her book design and for capturing the essence of his work far better than any other designer. The haunting cover image shows a human form in an unconscious state between destruction and death and rebirth.

This object was donated by Rebeca Méndez.
