Roofs Brooch, 2002

This is a Brooch. It is dated 2002 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is engraved and lacquered gold, iron. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Zanella said of this brooch, that it “. . . seems like a card game, an architecture realized with gold slabs, remember[ing] a roof-top view on a sunny day.” She achieves this with a textured gold that she then enhances by adding orange and black lacquer, thus evoking bright sun and shadow on roof tiles.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
