Man's Outer Hip Wrapper (double Saput) (Indonesia)

This is a Man's outer hip wrapper (double saput). It is dated 1900–1950 and we acquired it in 1972. Its medium is silk, metallic thread and its technique is tied resist patterning in weft (ikat), continuous and discontinuous supplementary weft patterning (brocade) on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Estate of Julian Clarence Levi.
